August 4, 2009 – Labadee, Haiti

Mama tells me that Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the whole world, but you would never think so with how picturesque their beaches are. (My Mama taught me that word in case you were wondering why I am so articulate). We went to an island called Labadee, which is privately owned by Royal Caribbean so it is on the safe side of town and away from the parts of Haiti that are poverty stricken and fraught with crime.

I sported a bikini for the first time in my life and although it felt weird and uncomfortable at first, I realised when I saw myself in the mirror that I looked too cute not to wear it.

We went to the formal dining hall for dinner so I had to be on my very best behaviour. Although there was so much silverware on the tables, I was only allowed to play with one teaspoon at a time.

It’s 70s night onboard and a massive dance party is planned at the Promenade. Picture the scene - thousands of people ‘Dancin’ In The Street.’ Just my cup of tea!
